Just wondered if people have mechanical or electric after market boost gauges on their cars?

The one I'm looking at comes in both and I don't know which one to get..

Is one better than the other etc...?

Any info would be great.

go for electric, it saves you having to run a vacuum/boost line all the way into the cabin which saves headaches if the line gets nicked/bent/cut :)

I was speaking to Jez at HD about this and he said to me that mech ones are only good up to 0.9 - 1.0bar, so it depends what boost you want to run..

Ill be going for a map at 1.2 bar I would think.

I'm going to need to run a boost hose into the cabin anyway for the EBC, but I guess having to run it up the A pilar could be a pain?

you shouldn't need to run a boost line into the car for an EBC, you'll have a solenoid that's under the bonnet then a wire connecting your 2 units.

ebc's are better cause they can adjust slightly to make sure no spikes are had!

The Greddy Profec Spec B II requires a boost hose taped into the FPR hose according to the manual I've read.

Unless I've misread it?

Yeah not sure bout other ebc but the profecBII you actually need a boost source so a vacuum hose needs to come into the cabin... But electronic definately!

More accurate and safer(in a way) :p

don't they have solenoids under the bonnet? that's where the boost feeds go?

the solenoid only controls the wastegate, it is sent a signal from the control unit which monitors the boost:nod:.

It doesnt need to come into the cabin as you have a boost sensor that you can plug into the engine bay an dthen run a wire to the controller. Im sure ive shown you mine before ?.

As said though go for an electonic boost gauge.

i thought that would be how it'd go. just i've not seen the profec to argue.

i know that the HKS i had was 3 connections, vacume, boost and actuator feed. all were under the bonnet with a cable from the controller to the solenoid.

Hi Jez,

Can you explain more? I dont quite get it, where in the controller does it take the boost sensor input by wires?

...just checked and indeed there is a boost hose T'd off from the FPR hose going into the boost controller in the cabin. Near the firewall ive T'd off again with a small length of hose to my electronic boost sensor so i only have 1 hose going into the cabin.

Everything works fine this way.
