Well...
After waiting six long years, I finally saved up enough cash and had the right car with the right mods to join the annual Streetrace trip to experience the Nurburgring Nordschleife
Left home at 9.00pm Fri night and then arrived at Dover just after 1.00am going into the Sat early hours. Only my mate with his white Mazdaspeed FD 'convoyed' with me down to Dover to meet the rest of the gang. Then hopped onto the 2.00am ferry over to Dunkirk. Once we arrived it took us a few hours through France and Belgium then into the Eifel mountains arriving at Nurberg around 10.30am.
First we got some breakfast then headed into Adenau which is the largest town in the area. Paid a little visit to the local Nurburgring fan shop where I got some goodies like cap and polo shirt hehe  Didn't actually get to the main Nordschleife entrance area until 5.00pm when it was open to public Sat evening (touristenfahrten). By this time I had already met up with Benne and it was great to see his S15 and have a chat!! Unfortunately the opening of the track on Sat evening was already delayed by an hour and then some idiot had a bad crash within the first 10 mins so the Nordschleife was closed and did not re-open in time for any of us to get out in our own cars
So we left it on the Sat and headed into town for a meal and a few drinks. Good night's kip at a fantastic place Benne recommended and helped us book into meant I was fresh as a daisy in the early hours of Sun and ready to get out onto The Ring!! Did first couple of laps as passenger in Benne's car and he showed me how it's done like a pro - the boy can drive and he's nailing all the corners, taking the crests flat out, hammering through Karussell... AMAZING!!! :notworthy:
So then I started to lap the circuit myself and a mate estimated my first ever lap to be around the 9:20 mark (bridge to gantry) so I was pleased with that. I pushed as hard as I dared and really glad I had quite a few track days under my belt as this put me much more at ease than other mates on the same trip who did not have this kind of experience to rely upon. I had a sneaky look at the speedo halfway down Flugplatz and was topping 140 mph
By the end of the Sun I had paid for and completed 10 laps equating to over 130 miles of hard driving... and I still wanted more!! However, the return ferry beckoned and we left Nurberg around 6.00pm but missed our ferry by 5 mins grrr
ended up only waiting another 2 hours for the next one back to Dover. There's a few videos to view and some of the best pics I took from the weekend as well.
It goes without saying I'll be back next year and deffo going for midweek trip (also recommended by Benne) as this will be much less busy and the track won't keep getting shut everytime some crazy fool decides to bin his Porsche 911 or Honda Civic haha?! :wack: Many, many thanks to Benne who has been a true gent and excellent local guide
There were so many other things to do which I never had time for in the end like finding a decent viewing point and spending a few hours taking pics, walking sections of the circuit when closed, Schumacher Karting Centre... and my mates managed to get some pics with Sabine *cool*
