Nismo gearbox.

What do you think of this gearbox.
It's way cheaper than the HKS gearbox.

Does this gearbox fix the circlip isue?
Anyone know how much power it can handle?

Just had a look on the OS Giken 3 gear set.

SR20DET(FR) 5-gear set w/input shaft
1st gear 2.717
2nd gear 1.722
3rd gear 1.232

Maybe the lower ratio works better with the car as most aftermarket boxes and internals seem to have lower ratio

Or could it be that they are matched for higher power figures. Making the high ratio on the stock box first gear obsolete?

HPI gearbox is based on nismo gears, it also handle more power and torque

Better option is to get the stockie rebuilt. Having 2nd gear sitting on the table beside me as a paperweight and going on the advice of a gearbox rebuilder and the place that repaired my box the strength of the stock gearset or input / counter shafts is not an issue until some serious mods come along. The circlip was fixed on mine obviously no problems yet but I havent heard one person with an S15 have to get their box ripped out twice... *fingers crossed*

A good friend just had a OS Giken full gearset put in and reports that it feels great, his is a five speed S14a box though.

Hey Brad how did you get the circlip problem fixed and how much did it cost??

It was all tied up in the labour cost so I couldnt identify how much just that was. Having to pull the box and the counter gears out and the machining for that alone wouldnt be cheap. I would say they would charge around 3-4 hours labour for a 1.5 hour job if someone knew what they where doing and had done it before.
