How do you tell what kind of diff you have?

Ive been reading contradicting articles on the type of diffs that came in the Spec s version of s15. Some say that the Spec s came with a Viscous LSD (VLSD) but others say they are open diffs. Is there any way i can tell by hopping under the car and looking? And before you ask yes i have tried the skid test and came to the conclusion that i either have a crappy VlSD or a open diff, which i also consider to be crappy . Any help would be appreciated!

My method is If it dosent clunk when parking or slow turning then change it to one that does lol

Going with that then it looks like time for a new diff. Surely theres some sort of markings or something on the outside casing...?

Diffs from other Nissan's have an orange "VLSD" sticker on it if it's got a viscous, about the size of one section of your thumb, try look for that

i will take a pic of my cusco 2way one for you but i think all the casings are pretty similar
