Do short shifters add any more wear or tear onto the gear box?

They only added wear will be because you can shift faster, This would result in added wear to the synchros.
I don't think it will be noticable though.

I've felt the C's kit on a Skyline R32GTR and it was heavenly :) Very short and felt much better and more precise.
Go for it I say
I will when I can afford it :)

S15R wrote something about sound-dedening which you might want to search for on this forum before installation.
People have experienced louder gearboxnoise with shortshift but S15R found the cure

hmm no
hmm yes
I was going to change mine but i read somewhere that it actually wears synchro
It may be due to driver's miss gear since it's shorter and also it may be stressing.
I actually heard someone changed his gearbox more than twice because of that. however it was in race condition.
You still can tell the shifter did some wears from this point and ended up changing gearbox when normal shifter wouldn't have done this.
so be careful if you are buying. Do some research and if you are going to buy, watch your habit for your own good.

I've used short shifts before on my previous cars 106 and lancer.. never had any porblems,
the only problem was getting into gear quicker then normal hehehe..

shifting is acutally more percise and feels stiffer..
With short shift you dont need use as much effort as before, this is the only area where i can see stress to be a issue.

oh yeah ergo might be a issue....

hmm NO
if you cant drive manual properly, even with stock shift you will damage synchros
Ive seen number of fucked up s15 6spd gearboxes, none of them was caused by short shifter
most of them are fucked because they didnt change gears properly or using aftermarket clutches

try shifting from 1st -> 2nd slow in your s15
you get crunches if u shift slow

The wrong gearbox oil can also wear the synchro (eg Redline Heavy Shockproof).
2nd that.

tight and smooth does not mean that the gearbox is getting more protection

Mine dont  going from 2nd to 1st does

I had a short shifter on my old car, if you still shift the same you will miss gears  but i cant see how it could increase wear as it still does the same function

My freind manage to find the last batch of C's shifter in Japan so if anybody wants one, I might be able to help. I am getting one myself and heard they are the only one that makes a good short shift for 6 speed S15.

Also that they are now bust and closed so it will be really hard to find any more in future.

I LOVE short shift :D
