350+ bhp tuning plan - comments/feedback please

Ok, over to the experts on here

Here's my plan for the 15 over the next 10 months... been thinking things through but not too much in case my head starts hurting?! Please bear in mind due to funds etc I'm doing the performance side in two stages - first stage with stock tubby, second stage with an upgraded unit. I also wanna give myself a chance to see how everything runs before I go all out with a new tubby :nod:


By next month
Apex FMIC, Walbro 255, Japspeed front pipe, Japspeed decat (all purchased ready to fit).

By November (next track day for me @ Oulton Park)
H-Dev exhaust mani, elbow, plug 'n' play ECU, remap to 1.0 bar.

By March 2010
Garret GT2871R, Z32 AFM, Nismo 740cc, HKS adjustable actuator, remap to 1.0 bar.

Along the way
Oil cooler, oil catch tank, baffled oil sump, Weld ABS heat-shield, Koyo rad, front/rear ARB, strut brace, towing hooks, seat harness, steering-wheel with quick-release.


Would really appreciate comments and feedback - I'm getting there... just trying not to break my bank account!!! Is there anything I've missed in particular?

at 1 bar youre likely to come in a little under the 350bhp mark mate, to crack 350 safely and reliably you'll need to uprate the head gasket and head bolts and run the boost up a bit further than what you'd planned. unless you already have a bad boy clutch then you're one will be dead in no time.

when ye say remap to 1.4 bar,is this on a standard engine???if not what modifactions are needed for 1.4-1.6 bar,and can you not just turn boost controller up???

eek hell no, you need a horseshoe up your arse to run that boost for prolonged periods of time on the stock head gasket without blowing it. that is right on the limit. you need all the supporting mods that go with it on the fuel, air and ignition side of things. uprate the h/g and even then you can run it up to 1.5/1.6 bar and then its just a question of what will go first - the bottom end or the gearbox:wack:

next step from here would be a built engine and a solution to the weak tranny such as mazworks conversion or s14 os giken 5 gear box with s14 running gear....

yes i have a 1.2mm metal gasket,550cc inj z32,tomei cams greedy t518z turbo,what bhp wud u expect from this at 1.2bar boost??

beats me mate, not familiar with that turbo but with that setup (turbo permitting) i cant see why you could run a little bit more boost through it. best to ask a specialist though, dont take anyones word for it lol

Any particular recommendations for this?? Guess most people have Exedy/Ogura...

this is a sticky subject for me - i love my exedy hyper single, apart from learning to pull away in first again its an awesome clutch that feels as soft on the foot as stock and is overall good value (the kit includes the flywheel, release bearing, plate, cover, flywheel bolts...and some natty stickers lol).

as far as i know, c1tpt has fitted this too with no adverse affects, but on my car it has been accompanied by a vibration that comes in between 3 and 2.5k off throttle/decellerating but i'm learning to drive around it and it hasnt caused any problems. having looked into it, apparently any lightened flywheel that is replacing the stock dual mass item will introduce some new vibration the original was designed to absorb but at the moment there doesnt seem to be another solution as the s14 heavy duty organics wont fit the s15 and the clutches available that work with the standard flywheel arent robust enough. about time act came up with one really, tuned s15's are getting quite popular these days after all - gladly not too popular though

For a clutch I'd recommend the Nismo Supercoppermix, I've got it on my 180sx and is really light and easy.
