Engine die off

Situation :

Cruizing mid speed on 6th gear. Shift gear to neutral while car is still cruizing...
I'd expect the engine to idle but it die off which car is still cruizing.

I had to shift back to 5th gear or 4th gear (depending on the speed) release clutch to get the engine firing again.

What could it be? Alternator? :(

Sounds more like the sudden drop in revs is confusing the fook out of your fuelling, causing it to stall before it can idle.

If its not a stupid question, why are you going into neutral from 6th? I never go into neutral unless I've stopped.

just raise the idle rev's slightly..... the idle is controlled by voltage etc.... and when the sudden drop of rev's occurs... the voltage can drop slightly, causing it to stall.... this is also increased when the blowers, glass heaters and other electrical consuming items are turned on! :)

mine now idles at about 900, but, doesn't cut anymore when comin' to a stop.

what dump valve/blow off valve do you have on the car as atmos d/v valves can cause this

Nicely,

I dont do this all the time but I was trying to spool down the turbos after some hot runs. :wack:

Dazzoi,

It died even without air-cond. My idling is about 750rpm. :(

Jgaragemac,

Its factory BOV - no drama here.

750 is lower than stock!

should be 850ish...

the screw facing forward on the top of your inlet manifold... in the centre.... turn that and you'll raise the idle rev's.... do it once the car has warmed up though! :) with all stuff like aircon etc turned off....

Actually you would use less fuel if you would leave the the car in gear and just roll down the hill with no gas applied.
The car doesn't use any gasoline while engine braking, but if your put it in neutral it will use a small amount to turn the engine around.
So to save those extra milliliters of fuel, just put it in 6th gear and roll down the hill without any gas
