Hi, i've joined this forum as i'm looking to buy a s15 in the near future when i sell my current car which is a civic ek9.

I'll probably go for a stock, fresh import specR. What are the common faults to look out for when buying a s15?

Cheers, craig :)

haha, yea! I definatly like my civic and will probably get another one one day, but want somthing a bit smoother for a while.
Always loved the S15 and now seems like a good time to get one.

I've had a look in the 'importers' section on this forum but thy seem to be larger companies.. can you guys reccomend more of a specialist that will find the right car for me?
Also, is there anything to look out for mechanically?

I'm after a spec-R but is there any differences between the years, or are they all the same? proper n00b question i know!! :)

Cheers for the help!! :D

Hmm.. hows it going, i was a civic owner too till i got my spec r 2 weeks ago. Honestly man i was addicted to the tec big time! (Had an EM1, but had a b18 bottom end in for a bit) I was worryin about sellin the coop but dammit not now, the s15 is like 100x better no joke!

The sideway-ness is an expensive issue tho but hella addictive lol!

As for the info ur after im a noob when it comes to FI cars including most nissans as iv spent the last 3 years readin up on all things with an 'H' on it ^_^

I do there there are threads on here tho with images and info on diff interiors etc, i also know the early s15 came with a BB turbo which spools faster?? but more chance of wear if driven hard? please someone correct me there if im wrong! >_<

Hello and welcome

As for the BB, No increased wear, but boost will tail off higher up the rev range. There are lots of thread on here explaining different aspects of the car, so get stuck in with the search button :D

There are a number of companies that will allow you to bid on I-Direct so you can pick your own car but there are a number of issues with accepting a large portion of 'risk' and work to get your car. The only other real option being the big importers mentioned else-where...

If you do go through an importer who selects the car remember that car at auction in Japan are only available for about 3 days max so you have to be right on top of things.

I saw a couple of auction grade 4.5 s15's recently up for auction that would tempt me....

Oh, hello btw....

I only got my S15 a few days ago and all i have done is take it 4 miles to the MoT station until the tax, mot and registration are sorted out...best drive i have had in years :-D

Thanks for all the info and advice, it is definatly very helpful. I've already considered trying to import one myself, but have decided its too much risk on a s15 as the car is worth a fair amount of money. I'll probably try and import a civic to start with and see how it goes.

I went to look at a s15 in south london this weekend, its the pearl white one (with the nismo kit etc), thats for sale on this forum. The owner was massively helpful and his car was a thing of beauty! If I can sell my civic or sort out some finance we will hopefully be doing a deal in the near future.

All you ex-honda drivers seem to be happy with the transition to S15, I'm sure I will be too!
