So, my s15 only came with an ugly nissan key. I'm guessing it's a spare. So, I started looking for nismo blank keys. Unfortunately, those for s15/r34 are no longer in production, and I can't find any for sale. What's left are those 8 points ones suited for the other nissans, from s13-s14, maxima and cef, etc etc.

Can anyone direct me to where I can get a nice s15 key?? Doesn't have to be nismo really. I kinda gave up on that.
Anything that looks decent.=P

Welcome  (let us know where you are in your profile :) )

I had a hell of a job just getting a replacement OEM blank key, as its different to all the other Nissan keys. Was a special order item (in the UK)...

Can't really see the appeal in getting a special key. So long as it starts the car, its doing its job :)

Wrong

A smart key adds at least 15hp - Depending on state of tune

I must get a spare made up. I suppose any key crowd would do it.. Nothing fancy about my key.

One question.
Is there a immoblizer transmitter in the key?
If it is, making up a new one will not deactivate the stock immobilizer.

Or is the stock one deactivinated as part of ESVA when a cat. 1 is fitted

Would doubt that very much. I think you may be right about the key though

There was no NATS on JDM S15s, so no key chips.

The immobilisers are fitted as part of the ESVA. They are usually controlled by the stubby bits of plastic on the key ring.

OK. So what is the black box I have mounted on my ECU? My aftermarket immobilizer?
Or could it have anything to do with the disconnected Hornet alarm I have?

I *think* it has to have at least a Thatcham approved Cat2 security system, i.e. an immobiliser. Obviously, if a Cat1 alarm and immobiliser are fitted, that covers it.

The only black box I know that's attached to the ECU is the ABS ECU...

I was hopping it was a hidden piggyback :) It sits on the ECU on the diagonal.

Dejavu.... Had this same conversation with Elizium a short while back. It would appear that the ABS ECU is in the back on ADM S15s (well, it is in the manual) and in S14s. The JDM ABS ECU is attached to the main ECU (check the location and part number in FAST...).

Getting back to the key issue here (no pun intended) the ADM deffinately has an imobilizer chip in the key unit. It is a small blue (matches my car :D ) plastic insert moulded into the fob of the key. When I bought the car from a dealer I got a second key with a small metal tag attached with a serial number. I was told that that was the only set of keys for the car and if I want/need another key I needed to quote the serial number and hand over about $400 AUD.

This is probably irrelevant to you guys in the UK if you are importing JDM. If Nicely is right (I don't think he has ever been wrong) then the JDM doesn't have this system.

 That sounds very much like the NATS2 system in the Euro S14as...
And that means big trouble if trying to start the car with a custom made key.
Unless you stick the NATS sender onto the new one.

On ADM S15s, yes. As stated previously, JDM S15 have no NATS. Its easy to tell. NATS keys are big and blocky, non-NATS are smaller and curvy - like the Nismo keys.

NATS was optional on JDM S15s
