Fitting a thermo to the oil cooler lines?

I have a oil cooler with filter relocation siting in the garage waiting to get in.

But I've recently heard from a Skyline GTR owner with the same kit that he saw way to low oil temp with the cooler on.
So now I've decided to fit a thermostat.
The setup I'm looking at is something like this.

And the thermo will probobly be one of these ordered from summit racing in the US.

Now to the question.
How am I supposed to fit this to my steel braided oil lines?
How do I know what fittings to use?

There is three types of ports available on the thermo.
3/8" NPT(int) Ports
1/2" NPT(int) Ports
10 AN (7/8"-14 SAE) Ports

I suppose I'll just have to get some fittings to match for the oil lines. But how do I now what I can use?
Can I measure the diameter on the hose in some way to know what fittings and thermo to get?

Its got to go there for it to work.

The fitments are down to you. As I've said before in this thread, engine oil needs to be at least 100 degrees C to work effeciently. In nearly all circumstances (except track) an oil cooler will take oil temps below this. It would be much simpler to just cover the cooler...

This applies to the mid/northern Euro climate...

The Skyline guy got temps below 70 degrees C even when bashing it.
So I started to think that just cover the cooler might not cut it.

This is the best thermo I've found so far. Would prefer one that would let the oil go to the cooler at higher temps but I can't find one

Will any fittings fit the oil lines?
I don't want to buy fittings that are to small or big.

The relocation adapter take offs might be easier to plumb... The GReddy one has two per adapter.

EDIT: Actually, ignore me. That's bollocks, cos it HAS to go in the main oil lines. Think you're going to have to get two different fittings. One to go into the braided hoses and one to attach to the temp valve.

This is what I will use to fit to the oil lines.

I will cut the oil hoses and fit the correct ones to match the thermo. But how do I know that they'll fit the hoses I've got?
I can't see anything about a outer diameter on the hose?

Is the "6 AN" and "8 AN" and so forth some type of measurement of the diameter??

If I get 6 AN fittings I've got to have a 6 AN hose??

In that case. How do I tell what hose I've got?

Email them. They should be able to advise you if you give them the diameter of the braided hoses.

OK. Thats probobly the easiest thing to do.

You could allways just bin the relocation kit (Or sell it to me ) and get a sandwich plate with a thermostat built in.

I wouldn't have bought this kit if it didn't include a filter relocator

It will be so easy changing the oilfilter after this kit is mounted

I suppose I could do that. But then I need to know what threads the fittings are and what to get to match the greddy stuff.

I'm now going to sell my kit and if I feel the need for a oil cooler later. I'll save up for a Greddy kit :thumbs:
