petrol tank / cap

hi guys,

since i've had my car every now and again i get a strong smell of petrol by the petrol cap,
today i've been doing some investigating......
any answers or ideas heres what i've done today.

1- there is no leaks,

2-when i take my cap off i dont get the hiss as if my tanks not pressurised,
does everyone elses hiss ?

3-my petrol cap looks as if its been cut short,its not got a valve in it, like the one on my micra & yaris,
has anyone else got a valve ?
my thinking is maybe they cut it short poss for sva but when they cut it they cut the valve off or it fell out?

Mark my other half did have good fun blowing and sucking my petrol caps on the 3 cars and is now as high as a kite :rotfl:

Sounds as though someone may have lost the original and took the cheapo replacement route...

yeah thought its strange mine dont hiss, as my other cars do.
i've taken a picture of it take a look see what you think...

I've a nismo one and it doesn't hiss..

Mine hisses. The very fact that you can smell petrol round it on not particularly hot days hints that it isn't sealing properly.

You could try to see if there is a proper aftermarket one available, or order an original from Nissan. Same as the S14a - 17251-79920

looking at your picture mines defo been cut off or its been dropped and broke off.

i did try the micra one seemed to fit ok

i think i feel a post on wanted in sxoc comming on :nod:

Couldnt have dropped into the tank though, so tats one good thing i guess.
