since it was such lovely weather on Sunday, I decided to fit my DVD head unit that I have had since I had my first car and thought it would look great in the silvia, plus my jap radio didnt have FM so double wammy. It is a 7 inch fold out screen so the brains are in a seperate unit which I planned on mounting in the glove box. Easy I thought, should be just over an hour to install no dramas...oh how wrong I was.

got the new stereo out and plugged all the wires in on my driveway to make sure i had everything. lots of cable but i thought hide that neatly behind the dash and can easily run the cables to the glove box. So out came the gaitor, of came the centre surround and climate control unit, unscrewed the radio and popped it out when i was greeted with what can only be described as a birds nest. Oh F*** I thought, ive read about this on here lol

so anyway it took me an hour and a half just to work out what wires were for what and what ones i didnt need, eventually got them linked up with my nissan micra adaptor thingy. hard bit over i plugged in the head unit and fed the cables into the glove box. went to put the unit in and then realised it had a snowballs chance of fitting in the glove box (school boy error).

cutting a long story short an hours job turned into 6 as i then ended up stripping most of the interior out to run the 20ft of cable to the boot. then spent the rest of the time trying to get FM and getting teh DVD player to work. in the end it got dark and i gave up.

could have done the fuel pump while i was there :p

then tonight i thought id have another look. found the park sensor wire had not been earthed so earthed it and still no joy on the DVD player. i then discovered my earthing point wasnt actually an earth so ive spent this evening shredding my hands trying to get 4 earths on one tiny bolt somewhere on the bulkhead. turned it on and still no dvd.

decided to then go round my mates as he is pretty savvy with this sort of stuff, as i turned the engine on it sprang into life :) sound, picture the lot! in my excitement iforgot to check the FM works as i now have proper earth, guess i was over excited that i can now watch porn on the way to work haha!

jim jefferies has never looked so beautiful lol

(for some reason my rotated pics i edited on photobucket still come out side on here so sorry for that)

yeah it was but well worth it in the end!

I just assumed all 15's had that bracket, that came with the car mate. I can only suggest doing a google search or ebay but I assume you would have already done that. also the head unit isnt in a cage, it just screws directly into that bracket thing I had (spent half hour with radio clips trying to extract it, only realised when i took the surround off to get a better look lol)

yeah not been on for a while, just lack of funds is halting proceedings lol

however I have had the car jigged up at the cost of £1500 so she is now straight as an arrow. I have also primered the second hand rear bumper and front wing. but trying to sort the wiring is a bit of a mare!!

today ive put back in all the wiring in the drivers footwell, but where the mini fuse panel thing is the jack plug that runs from the drivers door doesnt reacj so need some jiggery pockery but very annoying as there is literally no space in there at all. but once id finished and bolted everything together and turned the key all i got was a wasp like noise coming from something in the footwell but nothing works- indicators lights nothing. so er any ideas?

also does anyone know of any S15 specialists in the south east who could have a look at it.

things left to do:
-four wheel allignment
-get the thing painted (properly)
-get the nismos refurrbed over the winter :)

donations welcome ;)

Seems like ages since and update but good progress has been made, the nismo barrells have gone away to be refurbed and i have stripped the centres at work ready or paint :) the car is going into the body shop next week for paint at the sum of erhum £850 and the guy sad if im not happy with the way its done he'll do it again for free :) (painter my dad uses and he's no mug)

But the best new is is that the car actually runs now. Have a few niggles to sort out like the speedo and fuel gauge not working and also still no rear lights :(

Something odd has also happened with my boost gauage which i will get some pics up of to see if anyone can work out wtf is going on

Ready flor blasting, then some nice etch primer and high build before top coat

Any suggestions on colour, was going to do pearl the same as the car..

another mini update; the car is going in for paint Tuesday so should hopefully have it back by the weekend and also got my wheels in primer and they guy doing my car is also going to paint them for free which is a touch, have also just spent £120 on titanium nuts and bolts for my wheels :( but will be worth it. Have also got my barrels back from the refurb shop so just need to give the backs a quick spruce up and they will be ready for some new rubber.

Also as regular forum members have probably noticed I still have plenty of electrical gremlins to sort out so if anyone has any useful tips then feel free to chip in :)

etch primer and some non sand white and they're good to go (the other 2 look exactly the same in case you wondered!)

Juicy Update :)

Last weekend I got the car back from the body shop- looks perfect and took them 2 days to match the colour but its spot on.

Vinnie you'll be pleased to see the centers are now immaculate :)

only thing the forgot to paint was the skirt I damaged with a bungee cord which was holding down my car cover but I'm taking it back today for them to do.

but got around to putting the opposite skirt on- need to re drill the wing for the front bit and also need to mount the spats hopefully this weekend

AND...

Because I was on a high i finally upgraded my exhaust. Only changed the CAT back as it needs MOT soon and changing the whole lot with a trolley jack is a ball ache so will wait till my dads 2 poster is fully functional then will whip off the rest :)

Out with the old...

And in with the new :D

and yes that is a tin or Ronseal supporting the cat lol

Its the HKS silent power one. Even though the silencers are bigger than the nismo it sounds louder but guess thats a lot to do with the resonance of the stainless steel :)

A brief but very fruitful update- the car is fully properly 100% fixed and working as it should. What was the problem I hear you cry...There was a jack plug right up inside the dash that was plugged in wrong, 6 months of searching just for that FML :( Would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their help and advice and also the response I got for sourcing all the parts I needed and parts that I thought I may have needed. Fingers crossed I will get the car back this weekend and so can get the interior back in and get the spats and drivers skirt put on. She needs an mot and wheel alignment so once thats done I will driver her till the tax expires at the end of the year then SORN it and strip it down over the winter and fit all my goodies :D literally sooooo happy right now!

Photo time! Managed to put the interior back in the car and give it a reasonable clean inside and out with the help of my friend who seems to have car OCD which was ideal as my car was filthy! got a few before and after photos below:

The engine bay was filthy as was the outside but my buddy had a box of autoglym/chemical guys goodies to solve this :). He had this really good car shampoo and spray that i think was a chemical guys product- it basically dissolves iron deposits on your paint work that normally would be picked up by the sponge and dragged around, turned my car purple there was so much on there! will get some photos up when we do it again.

After:

engine and body looking a million times better now, all that is left to do is fit teh skirt sill and my rear spats. car is going for MOT Friday so fingers crossed she passes then will need the tracking sorted

awful interior shot but took the seats out to give it a good hoover...and dry out! The guy who repaired the car put the seat back in but pinched the washer fluid pipe under the seat rail and so deposited an entire 3 litres of soapy water into the drivers side foot wells! took ages to dry it all out, done a temporary fix using an inline fuel tap i had kicking about for my mini motos.

have thought about clutch upgrade soon once i up the power, around 310hp at the flywheel. have read a lot on here about clutches and would be a toss up between this and an exedy ultra fibre clutch. drawn to this one because it removes the dual mass. My only concern is a) it breaking my gearbox (6spd) and b) seems quite pricey and difficult to get hold of replacement clutch paddles for this as id like it to last more than 20k miles!

Lovely S15! I've got Torque GT looking for one for me at the moment.

Driftworks sell a conversion flywheel that will then let you run any 5 speed clutch like in the S14's.

http://www.driftworks.com/driftworks-s15-sr20det-lightweight-chromoly-flywheel.html

And then I would suggest looking at ACT clutches as I had the "Heavy Duty" (The most popular) one in my S14A (330whp) and the clutch was perfect and was the same clutch pedal strength as my older exedy.

This is the combo I will be going with when ever the 15 arrives.

i thought the heavy duty clutches would be overkill as i wont be running much over stage 1 and dont intend to drift or track it?

It's only the "Extreme" versions that give hassle, and that's from seeing it for myself! I haven't heard anything with the "heavy duty" version. It's a good clutch kit.
Stage 1 would be fine to run a lower version kit but it's always nice that if you want to hike up the power a bit that the clutch will be fine.

Although I'm new to the 6 speed box I know they aren't as strong as the 5 speeds.

Oh ok thats useful to know. I know a lot of people say it isnt as strong as they have made the gears smaller to fit the extra ratio in the same housing but there is a guy on here called Tooley who i think is still running the 6 spd in his drift car and has had no problems with it and that gets used as a proper drift car not just midnight cub roundabout fun
